MEDICAL INTERPRETATION CERTIFICATION READINESS WORKSHOP

The purpose of the Medical Interpreting Certification Readiness Workshop is to provide participants with up to date information and training to prepare themselves to complete the ESP/ENG written exam for the National Board of Medical Interpreters Certification or the CCHI Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters.

The Language Institute of the Triangle is committed to actively engage in the ongoing process of certification and recognition for the medical interpreting profession and its interpreters. To further this goal, LIT will provide frequent workshops on a variety of topics to enhance skill development in the field.


 
TOPICS COVERED
 

INTRODUCTION - Review of the requirements and structure of both certification programs.

ETHICS - Codes of ethics and standards of practice from IMIA, CHIA and NCIHC. Case studies.

MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY - Overview and practice.

ON FOCUS - Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Nervous System.

SPEAKER- Presentation and Q&A by a health care interpreter certified by both organizations.

Requirements- Although both exams require a minimum experience as a medical interpreter, the workshop is open to any bilingual (ESP-ENG) person who wants to prepare for or familiarize themselves with the medical interpretation certification process.
