Montevideo, Uruguay
Spanish Language School

The smallest Hispanic country in South America, Uruguay is bordered to the north by Brazil, to the west by Argentina, to the south by the Rio Plata, and to the east by the Atlantic Ocean. Many believe the country’s wide sandy beaches are the best in the world, to which the invasion of the beach-loving Argentineans can attest. Safety, health standards, and political stability are among the best in Latin America.

Located on the Rio Plata, Montevideo (population 1.9 million) is lively and modern, yet more like a large town than a city. The people are mostly of European descent, as in Buenos Aires and Santiago. Nine sandy beaches stretch along Montevideo’s waterfront, and one is only 3 blocks from the school. The most popular beach resort is Punta del Este, a narrow peninsula between the Rio Plata and Atlantic Ocean.

School Facilities: A pleasant converted home in a nice residential area, 3 blocks from the beach. Walking distance to shops, banks, cafes, restaurants, gym, golf club, nightlife. Capacity is 20 students/day.

Participants: Mostly European, the rest from US, Japan, Brazil. Many are professionals working for international companies, diplomats, some university students and independent travelers.

Other: Also works well for the most advanced level students. Not only are the teachers highly educated in many other subjects besides Spanish, but also, due to the private classes, students have substantial influence over what is covered in class.

MONTEVIDEO

Home to almost 50% of the nation's population, Montevideo is a modern metropolis with a historical old town dating back to colonial times. Surrounding the whole city lies an uninterrupted stretch of white sandy beach. Highlights include Ciudad Vieja (Old Town) with its 18th century buildings, the vibrant Mercado del Puerto, and the bustling commercial activity of Avenida 18 de Julio and its cultural offerings (theatres, museums and art galleries).

LIT also help you to arrange housing, excursions, airport transfers, rent a car and flights.
